Queenswood is an extraordinary place with extraordinary people. It would be our privilege to educate your daughters here.

Science Overview

Our results at GCSE are very strong. The separate sciences – Biology, Chemistry and Physics – are extremely popular A-Level options, and many of our students go on to the top universities to read subjects such as Medicine, Veterinary Science, Pharmacy, Psychology, Biomedical Sciences, Medicinal Chemistry and Engineering.

We have seven laboratories in the department and a dedicated computer room available for use by students. Our experienced staff of science teachers are well supported by an excellent team of well-qualified laboratory technicians. All year groups undertake a wide variety of laboratory-based practicals. In addition we make extensive use of our spacious grounds and our pond habitat for fieldwork and experiments.

We have welcomed internationally renowned scientists to lecture at Queenswood in recent years, including Professor Brian Cox and Professor Lord Robert Winston.

We run thriving after-school science clubs. Students also have the opportunity to enter local and national competitions such as the Science and Technology Challenge and the National Analyst Competition. We have won prizes in both of these in recent years.

Regular trips are organised to Field Study Centres, institutions such as the Wellcome Genome Campus in Cambridgeshire, the Bayfordbury Observatory, and conferences such as ‘Science Live’ (where students have the opportunity to listen to leading scientists).
