Welcome to Digital Q

The Home of Digital Learning at Queenswood

As an early innovator in the space of remote learning, Queenswood was perfectly placed to deliver an uninterrupted and robust education during the pandemic, moving seamlessly from classroom based instruction to online learning. We were extremely proud to be recognised as a leading practitioner in this space with a Pearson National Teaching Award for Digital Education in 2021.

Continuing to be modern and forward thinking in our approach to education, we have been working hard to ensure the next steps in our digital evolution are equally inspiring. As always at Queenswood, we place the student at the centre of all our strategic thinking. The move to a 1:1 device programme will ensure that all of our students gain the skills, confidence and digital fluency required to thrive both in higher education and the modern workplace.

The benefits of 1:1 devices in the classroom are clear. Our approach combines the huge experience of our staff body with innovative research-led teaching practice. Personal devices aid teaching and learning by increasing discovery learning, independence, metacognition, collaboration and enabling detailed and focused feedback which empowers pupils to take control of their own learning journey. Our core strategy is built around the evidence based recommendations of the Educational Endowment Foundation, details of which can be found here.

We are ideally placed to combine the best of traditional teaching methods with the benefits of a forward-thinking digital learning experience. At its core, the strategy will create a hybrid learning environment that remains true to our DNA, building on the expertise of our staff in the use of educational technology and their pedagogical expertise in the classroom to ensure the optimal outcome for all of our learners. The introduction of a 1:1 device offers many advantages:

  1. Better Security and Safeguarding:
We can more effectively restrict the device to better separate personal and educational content, creating a rigorous and robust digital learning environment. Monitoring software will be used to prevent device misuse.

  2. Improved Teaching and Learning:
Staff training and lesson planning can be built around a specific device, allowing teachers to more effectively embed EdTech into their lessons. Teachers can now plan their lessons to the specific advantages of a single device, such as the touchscreen and e-inking, safe in the knowledge that all students will have a functioning device that is ready for learning. This will allow us to build more interactive, collaborative lessons into our schemes of work, further leveraging our expertise in teaching girls.

  3. Centralised Device Management:
Central device management has many advantages. We can ensure the device is always up to date from a software and security point of view. We can centrally push applications teachers want to use easily and seamlessly to the devices without the wasted time and technical issues of students doing this individually. We can provide a backup device for students in certain circumstances to ensure that everybody always has a device and is ready to learn.

We hope you are as excited as the staff at Queenswood as we continue to innovate in the delivery of our curriculum. If you have any further questions please refer in the first instance to the FAQ document on this website.
