OQ Book Section in Queenswood’s Library

Tuesday 19 July 2022

Reading is a core part of a Queenswood girl's education, and the Pauline Edgar Library, now situated in the Old Pool Hall, is at the centre of the School.  The girls (very successfully!) participate in the National Literacy Trust Reading Champions Quiz annually, and each week's School Newsletter has an update on what a member of staff is currently reading, or suggested reading lists for the school holidays.  Girls are encouraged to undertake research for school work, debating, applications, and so on.

We know that a number of OQs have written books - biographies, historical novels, cookery books...to name but a few.  The OQA would like to donate copies of these to Queenswood, in order to have an OQA Section in the Library.

So, we need your help...if you have written a book/s, or you know a contemporary who has, please contact us and let us know. We already know of the following authors, but do get in touch if you are not on this list:

Clarissa Farr, Jane Harrington (Mrs Lovett), Nancy Beasley (Mrs Charley), Dr Wendy Bird, Rebecca Stonehill (Mrs Narracott), Joanna Hickson (Mrs McDonald), Dr Sarah Simblet, Karen Hearn, Chioma Okereke, Catherine Trodd (Mrs Pickles), Amanda Gluckstein (Mrs Graves).

Our aim is to collect as many OQ books as we can for the beginning of the September term and will then liaise with the school librarian, to establish the OQA Section within the library.

Of course we will also put the word out on an annual basis, to ensure that the Section is kept up-to-date with new publications.

If you think you can help in the creation of this new resource, please contact either the Foundation Office at [email protected] or the Chair of the OQA, Tricia Wrinch at [email protected]
