Year 7 Enrichment: Norman Conquest, STEM Challenge and Chariot Racing

Friday 23 June 2023

Year 7 threw themselves wholeheartedly into their first Enrichment Week at Queenswood, taking part in a varied and exciting programme of events.

On Monday, the usually sedate Trew Lawn was transformed into a medieval battleground as the students practised the archery and sword skills used by the Norman and English armies at the Battle of Hastings. This was followed by a calmer day on Tuesday as they embraced our STEM Challenge and made fragrant bath bombs in the Science Department and built 'egg towers' with Mrs Stokes and Mrs Brown. In the afternoon, the Classics Department led the girls in a fun Chariot Racing activity to finish off a very full day.

Heading offsite on Thursday, the students enjoyed a visit to the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford to explore the many fascinating exhibits and they rounded off the week with a stimulating Writers Workshop delivered by renowned authors Jonathan Stroud and Penny Joelson along with performance poet Professor Pango Mango.
