The English Department are pleased to announce that they have awarded book prizes to the students who achieved the highest marks in their class in the recent English Language and English Literature mock exams.

The pupils chose their own prizes:

• Asha K – The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
• Elizabeth J – The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
• Freia T – Rebecca  by Daphne du Maurier
• Lily L – Small Island by Andrea Levy
• Rosie P – A Room With A View by E M Forster

Mrs New, Head of English, commented:

‘These pupils are already demonstrating the reading and writing skills they need to successfully negotiate a challenging world. I’m impressed by their choices – all great books which centre on female characters.  I’m looking forward to hearing what they think of them.’

We will be publishing the students’ views on their chosen novels in forthcoming issues of the newsletter.
