Three Queenswood Writers Published in Poetry Anthology

Friday 3 March 2023

Many congratulations to Nayia D (Year 7, above left), Issy N (Year 9, above right) and Ela B (Year 12), who have all had their poetry published in the latest Young Writers anthology, titled The Power of Poetry: Electrifying Verse.

They attend weekly creative writing sessions with Miss Culora (English department) and submitted their poetry in the recent national Young Writers competition. There were thousands of entrants, and Nayia, Issy and Ela have all done extremely well to have their work chosen for publication.

Stop Littering

Stop littering
What do you get from it apart from speeches like this?
What does it give you?
Destruction. Malfunction.
I’m sure deep down that you care
Show some respect and get complaints out of your hair
Animals are being murdered
They’re like our family
Face reality
Wake up and see
The world can be changed
Starting with you and me.

Mitski at the Harry Styles Concert

From her lips comes the pure guttural sound
Of a heartbreak
As they point
From her limbs comes the ecstasy of youth
Pulling herself apart and contorting herself into something wild
As they laugh
They say she’s odd
Waiting for a man to take her place
The hubbub loudens
Deafens
And now her voice sounds like pleading
The act is over
He’s here
The crowd falls into
Anticipatory silence.
