Our Platinum Jubilee preparations are now in full swing, with a memorable day of celebrations planned for our pupils on Friday 27 May. This week, five students from Years 7 and 8 competed in the final of the Queenswood Pudding Competition, bringing a regal flair to the Practical Cookery Suite.

The near-impossible task of choosing a winner was undertaken by Mrs Lee, Practical Cookery Teacher at Queenswood,  Mr Darren Kennedy, Head Chef and Peace A, Head Girl, and the puddings produced on the day were certainly fit for a Queen!

Sahi (Year 7) wowed the judges with the intricate presentation of her Five Berry Mixed Trifle, whilst Beatrice, Valentina and Estella (also Year 7) produced a stunning Jubilee Trio  including meringue gems, chocolate coated strawberries and orange and vanilla parfait.

But it was Alexa D (Year 8) with her  Jubilee Shortbread who was crowned champion on the day. Her incredibly light shortbread hearts, decorated with delicate buttercream and fresh fruit were acclaimed by the judges for their texture, presentation and suitability as a whole-school dessert. Alexa's Jubilee Shortbread will be made by Queenswood's Pastry Chef - Miss Susan Broomfield, and served at our party lunch on Jubilee Day.

After the hectic morning of baking, the girls were delighted to share their delicious puddings with Mrs Cameron, who hosted a wonderful afternoon tea for them. Congratulations to everyone who took part in the competition and we extend our grateful thanks to all Queenswood staff involved in the Jubilee celebrations.
