Queenswood U13 Netball Runners up at Kimbolton Tournament Saturday 14 January 2017

On Saturday 14 March, the U13A squad took part in the annual Kimbolton Netball Tournament against Kimbolton, Bedford Modern, Witham Hall and Swanbourne.

With the same draw as last year, Queenswood faced the toughest opposition Witham Hall first. After a closely contested first half, Witham went into the second half 3-2 up. Queenswood used Zoe Iaonnou’s height to their advantage with some lovely high balls from Holly Dench and Ellen McGuigan, however they could not regain the lead and ended up losing the match.

After a tactical team talk and an agreement on aims for the day, Queenswood went into their second match against Kimbolton like a different team. Tumi Adewinmbi, Ellen McGuigan and Freya Moody all worked tirelessly in defence, claiming intercept after intercept. Mid-court play from Lucy Jarman and Kirsten Littleford remained strong and shooting from Captain Grace Best and Lucinda Beanlands ensured we won the game 10-1.

Swanbourne, another strong team, were our third match. Queenswood continued their momentum into this game and were 5-2 up at half time. Annie Williams did well in transferring the ball from defence to attack and we continued to capitalise. Grace Best and Zoe Iaonnou continued to score with ease, and we finished the game 9-4.

Coming into our final game against Bedford Modern, Queenswood knew only a win would secure them the runners-up spot as Bedford had managed a draw against Witham Hall earlier on. The match was extremely tense and exciting, with Tumi Adewinmbi playing outstandingly well as GK to continually make intercepts and claim rebounds. Queenswood led 5-4 at half time, and Annie Williams was brought on as GD to strengthen the defence. Holly Dench ran all game and the shooters took their chances. Final score was 8-4 to Queenswood.

Player of the Tournament: Tumi Adewinmbi
