Queenswood Musicians’ Fundraising Sunday Serenade at St James’ Church, Goffs Oak

Thursday 23 June 2022

MR KOKKINOS, ASSITANT DIRECTOR OF MUSIC

On Sunday 29 May, I organised for a group of Queenswood musicians to perform at St James’ Church, Goffs Oak, at their Sunday Serenade Concert as part of the celebrations for HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The concert was in aid of the Research for Gene Therapy charity at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, of which Her Majesty is patron.

Queenswood's affiliation with St James’ goes back many years thanks to our music outreach programme, where our pupils perform once a term for the church’s Luncheon Club.

The concert was a joyous occasion and our musicians performed a selection of  vocal and instrumental items with real poise and conviction to an appreciative audience.

I do believe that our students got a lot out of it, and they enjoyed the challenge of performing outside Queenswood.

The concert also included a few items by pupils outside Q: a string quartet performance by the Noskova Quartet, Purcell School, of which Niamh A (OQ) is a member, and a cello performance from my son, Alexi K-E, from Dame Alice Owen’s School in Potters Bar.

My sincere thanks must go to Kalli Z, Imie L, Tia S, Chihiro F, Asha P, Adrienne S, Alexa D, Isabella P-V, Annabelle R, Tanya D and Konyinsola S for giving up their time so generously during half term to be part of this concert and raise money for charity, inspiring the audience along the way with their fabulous performances. Encore!
