Mrs Truran’s Homage to Celebrated Black Authors

Friday 7 October 2022

October is Black History Month, a recognition of Black heritage, culture and achievements. As part of the School's BHM celebrations, Mrs Truran - Head Librarian at Queenswood, spoke to the students in Chapel this week. In a most engaging address, she recounted the literary achievements of five Black writers: Harriet E.Wilson, author of ‘Sketches From the Life of A Free Black’; Anna J Cooper, author of ‘A Voice from the South’; Gwendolyn Brooks, author of ‘Annie Allen’; Toni Morrison, author of ‘The Bluest Eye’; and Maya Angelou, author of ‘I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings’.

These powerful narratives continue to touch readers today and we thank Mrs Truran for telling us the inspirational stories of their authors.
