Jane Eyre: A Triumphant Return to Live Theatre at Queenswood

Friday 11 February 2022

After two years of drama performances filmed with socially distanced year-group bubbles in empty auditoriums, it has been such a joyous and emotional experience to welcome audiences back into the Clarissa Farr Theatre for our long-awaited whole-school production of Jane Eyre.

Over three nights, a cast of more than 70 pupils from Years 8–13 brought Charlotte Brontë’s timeless classic vividly to life. Multiple actors were cast in each role, to reflect the progression of Jane from infancy to adulthood.

The ingenious stage design represented the many locations of the epic story, and allowed the action to take place on many levels. There were fires, storms, carriage rides, ‘haunted’ rooms and nocturnal frenzies, requiring the full range of special effects available in Queenswood’s theatre.

It was particularly moving to watch our oldest and most experienced performers, for some of whom this was their final full-scale Queenswood production, mentoring and encouraging the younger students as they took to the Clarissa Farr Theatre stage for the first time.

We are so grateful to the many audience members – parents, pupils, friends of the school – who have sent us kind comments about the production. You can read some of them in the slideshow above.
