A Superb Year for Hockey: The Story So Far

Thursday 11 January 2024

MARK MENEAR, HEAD OF HOCKEY

As a new term of Queenswood Hockey begins, it’s the perfect time to highlight our players’ fantastic achievements to date.

  • The U12s are 3rd in Hertfordshire.
  • The U13s are 1st in Hertfordshire, 3rd in the East of England, and top 8 in the country in the Independent School Cup.
  • The U14s are 3rd in Hertfordshire and 3rd in the East of England.
  • The U12s reached the last 16 in the country in the Independent School Cup.
  • The 2nd XI are 2nd in Hertfordshire and 6th in the East of England.
  • The 1st XI reached the last 16 in the England Hockey Plate finals, and are still to play in the last 16 in the Independent School Cup.

It’s been a fantastic start to the season with all squads competing well in the Cup competition. The 1st XI play their last 16 game at home on Tuesday 23 January at 2.30pm.

We also have a large number of pupils playing for their county, with four individuals making England Hockey’s Talent Academy.

In total, we have had 188 pupils playing in 79 matches, not including tournaments.

There’s still plenty of Hockey to play, with a local competition starting this term and games versus local clubs to come.

And, last but not least, our very own Mr Douglas has represented Great Britain at U21s in the prestigious Johal Cup in Malaysia, and is at present in Valencia with the Scotland senior squad. He will be playing against Japan and Spain before returning to a GB Hockey squad camp.
