Queenswood is an extraordinary place with extraordinary people. It would be our privilege to educate your daughters here.

Dedication of the Ernest Read Hall

Thursday 12 June 2014

After 50 years, the recital hall in the Music Department has been renamed ‘The Ernest Read Hall’ in memory of Queenswood’s most famous Director of Music – in post from 1920 until 1965. Many will remember the Ernest Read children’s concerts, but Ernest Read was also a pioneer of the youth orchestra movement and a champion of national musical education, building Queenswood into a centre of excellence. Read worked at Queenswood until he was 86 and laid the foundation stone of the Music Department in 1965. We celebrated the re-dedication with a concert for parents and members of Ernest Read’s family, followed by speeches from Mrs Edgar, Mr Dobson and Ernest Read’s grand-daughter, who unveiled the new brass dedication plaque.
