Academic Scholarships
Our Academic Scholarship programme gives the academically gifted a sense of identity and purpose as they reach towards ever higher levels of achievement.
Scholars meet regularly to explore possibilities for intellectual challenge, and enjoy stimulating company. They benefit from, and contribute to, a rich programme of presentations and discussions – recent topics have included ‘The Anatomy and Pathology of the Heart’, ‘How Billionaires Impact the Global Economy’, and ‘Women as Villains in Ancient Mythology’. There is also time to chat informally together, and Scholars quickly make friends with like-minded peers, enjoying the chance to discuss their reading, their learning and wider experiences.
We keep a close eye on the academic progress of Scholars, offering individual advice and recommendations to enrich learning, including signposting to relevant articles, books, podcasts, lectures and competitions. Scholars have the opportunity to participate in a range of events in school and outside of school, including visits to Cambridge colleges and museums. All staff who lead departments and faculties know who the Scholars are, and make sure they are given appropriate stretch and challenge in their subjects.
We expect Academic Scholars to be role models in the school, exhibiting enthusiasm for their education and inspiring those around them. We are looking for candidates who can not only demonstrate high performance, but who also have a passion for learning and an enquiring mind. It is the start of an exciting journey at Queenswood, with our Scholars typically achieving outstanding results at GCSE and A-Level.
