Weekend Fun: Textile Art and a visit to the Chelsea Fringe

Tuesday 16 May 2023

We may have settled back into a two day weekend after enjoying the bank holidays, but there is still plenty of time to enjoy some weekend fun activities.

For our students studying textiles, a visit to the Threads through Creation exhibition at St Albans Cathedral might be worth considering this weekend, and our Allotment Club members are sure to be interested in the 2023 Chelsea Fringe Festival, which starts this Saturday. Please find details below.

Whatever your weekend brings, we hope you have lots of fun.

Threads through Creation is a spectacular sequence of twelve huge textile panels. It’s an exuberant retelling of the creation story in the book of Genesis, a retelling which many visitors will find both moving and breathtaking. In the video above, artist Jacqui Parkinson gives a brief overview of the exhibition, taking over 3 years to complete and consisting of over 8 million stitches!

Chelsea Fringe Festival 2023 is based not just in Chelsea, but all over London, and in other cities nationwide and internationally. The Fringe celebrates community and guerrilla gardening, and encourages links between gardens and art, literature, music, cookery, history, crafts, and ecology. There is a wide array of events to choose from, including wildlife walks, plant sales, garden art exhibitions and craft work shops.
