This Week in Chapel: Honey Bees and Sewing Bees

Thursday 25 May 2023

The theme in Chapel this week was Community.

On Monday we heard from Mr Sheldon (Senior Deputy Head), who marked World Bee Day with a fascinating analysis of the complex social structures of the beehive. He explained how each bee has a designated role within its community, ensuring that the population thrives. He also spoke about No Mow May, Plantlife’s annual campaign to encourage gardeners to allow their lawns to grow during the month of May, encouraging wildflowers to flourish and ‘provide a feast for pollinators’.

On Wednesday, Mr Turner (Teacher of Design Technology) introduced us to a community of which he and his department are proud members – dedicated fans of The Great British Sewing Bee. He took the opportunity to share some of the excellent work that has been created by Queenswood pupils in DT lessons this term, including the blood bags that we featured in last week’s newsletter.
