Queenswood retain Aberdare Cup in tie-break thriller

Queenswood’s A team (Becky Smaller, Molly Reed, Corinne Blythe, Ema Lazic and Katty Weymouth) defended the Aegon Team Tennis Schools National Championships title in July, to round off a supremely successful year.

They beat Talbot Heath School from Bournemouth, but it was an extremely closely-fought affair. After the singles matches the score was 2-2, with wins for Katty and Ema. After the doubles matches the score was 3-3, with a win for Becky and Katty. This meant that the title was decided on a Championship tie break, which Becky and Katty won 10-8 in a thrilling climax.

En route to the final the girls beat Holmfirth High 12-0,Culford 12-0 and Millfield 8-4.

Our B team (Chloe Lant, Yemisi Ifederu, Ludovica de Vargas Machuca and Ilona Makhunova) were placed 13/16, after beating Backwell 10-2 and Peter Symonds 8-2 but losing to Sheffield High School 4-8 and St George’s college 4-8.
