Spectacular Concert from the Gents of St John’s

Thursday 26 September 2019

The Queenswood community enjoyed a truly world-class evening of music-making in the Chapel on Thursday 19 September, courtesy of the Gentlemen of St John's.

Formed of the choral and organ scholars of the world-renowned Choir of St John’s College, Cambridge, the 'Gents' are noted for their versatility, performing music spanning over 600 years.

The concert was arranged by OQ Anne Dearle, in aid of the Mandalay School for the Deaf – a charity founded by fellow OQ Sandy Blakeway-Smith (nee Smith) to provide help to disadvantaged deaf children in Burma (now Myanmar).

Former Principal of Queenswood Pauline Edgar is a patron of the charity, and we were delighted to welcome her back on this very special occasion.

We were treated to the full range of the Gents' repertoire, from Renaissance settings of the Magnficat to ingenious a capella arrangements of pop hits by Katy Perry and the Beatles.

We would like to thank Ann, Pauline and the Gents for making the evening possible, and the very generous audience who raised more than £5,000 for this excellent cause.
