Charity Week at Queenswood: 5 – 9 December 2016

Thursday 1 December 2016

The last full week of the autumn term is Charity Week here at Queenswood, and girls from every House are gearing up to raise money, organise collections and boost awareness of their chosen causes.

Food bank

Girls are being asked to bring in non-perishable food items for our local Trussell Trust Food Bank.

Suggested non-perishable items include cereal, tinned soup, pasta, rice, pasta sauce, tinned beans, tinned meat, tinned vegetables, tea/coffee/hot chocolate, tinned fruit and biscuits.

Collection boxes will be available in all Houses.

Welwyn Hatfield Women’s Refuge (Years 10 and above)

In tutor groups next week, girls are being asked to bring in items for the Welwyn Hatfield Women’s Refuge. Many women and their children arrive at the refuge with absolutely nothing. Suggested items are: toothbrushes, toothpaste, shower gel, soap, bubble bath, flannels, shampoo, tights, pants, t-shirts, pyjamas, tracksuit, socks, hair care products and accessories, make-up (brand new only), stationery items, books, DVDs and so on. Many women also have children.

Christmas Jumper Day

Staff and girls are strongly encouraged to don their best festive knitwear (with uniform) on Thursday 8 December and pay £1 for charity.

Christmas Fair

This is always a highlight of the fund-raising year, as tutor groups set up stalls in the Old Pool Hall and compete to raise the most money for the House charities. This year the fair takes place on Friday 9 December.
