Junior Academic Scholars: Previewing the Super Curriculum
Friday 16 May 2025
Last week the Junior Academic Scholars met to discuss the new Super Curriculum, which will be launched to all pupils later this term. Below, they offer their thoughts on this exciting new scheme.
NINA, ELLA, ISABELLA AND AMELIA, YEAR 7
The Super Curriculum is a fantastic new addition to Queenswood’s academic project. It allows the students to be able to further add to their knowledge by doing extra work when they find they are easily accomplishing the class work. It is a great way to improve our academic skills. Knowing that we have a supportive curriculum with a good structure and base, is reassuring.
Personally, I find Maths quite simple, so I think the Super Curriculum will help me because it will make it easier to find some more challenges.
The Super Curriculum can offer great advice to further your learning individually. No matter what subjects you favour, you can improve so much more within them all. It suggests ways that you may find fun as it acknowledges the fact that people like learning in different ways.
As a group, the Academic Scholars are really going to benefit from it, because it will allow us to continue learning, even if the rest of our classes are still struggling with a particular topic.
Overall, the Super Curriculum is an amazing programme that is an amazing way to motivate and encourage Queenswood students to stretch themselves as far as possible.
PAISLEY, YEAR 8
During this week’s meeting, the Junior scholars were enthusiastic to hear all about the new co-curricular programme – the Super Curriculum. Essentially, the Super Curriculum is an exciting new scheme filled with a variety of ways for students to expand their learning; from delving into philosophy with Stephen Law’s book, The Philosophy Files, to creating a masterpiece out of recycled materials, the opportunities are endless!
We were also intrigued by Nina D’s exciting trip to Oman, a country in the Middle East. We heard all about her unique experiences riding camels through the desert and visiting mosques.
OLUWANI, YEAR 9
This year, we have been introduced to the new Queenswood Super Curriculum. This informative guidebook on how to further your education outside of the classroom is a good way to broaden your horizons without the help of teachers.
As we progress through school, we find ourselves needing to read widely for interviews and tests, but sometimes there aren't enough hours in a timetable to do so. The Super Curriculum creates a way for students to solve this problem. It gives you the opportunity to stretch past the curriculum, and even further, to the goals you want to achieve. As we all know, having an independent and well-read mind can be an asset for future endeavours. It can set you apart from your peers in school, the workplace and all other areas of life.
Each department has put together a list of things you can ‘listen’, ‘watch’, ‘read’, ‘research’, ‘visit’, ‘create’ and ‘write’ to explore further topics that perhaps aren't in the work scheme for the year. So with the help of the Super Curriculum, available to KS3, KS4 and Sixth Formers, you can take your learning to new heights!
