The Newsletter Club Explores the Library

Thursday 8 May 2025

The Newsletter Club visited the Library on Tuesday and enjoyed a very informative talk from Queenswood Librarian, Mrs Vine. Lily S (7N) reports on the visit and tells us how students can make the most of this exceptional resource.

LILY S (7N)

This Library was named after a previous Principal, Mrs Pauline Edgar, and was opened in 2018. Before the building opened as a library, it housed the school's swimming pool and the pool void is still underneath the floor!

The books in the Library are arranged in different sections for different age ranges and year groups, and then mostly by author and in alphabetical order.

Recently, some older students working towards their DofE Award have organised some of the books in sections including romance, graphic novels, biography, short stories, dyslexia friendly publications, wellbeing and so on.

Mrs Vine and Ms Gaffney, the Librarians, can help you find a book and even order it for you if it is not in the Library. They hold a digital register of every book in the Library and you can search for your chosen book on this register.

The Library even has a section for older girls who do not know what to do in their A levels, which is called 'Introduction to...' They also have a wall of non-fiction books. This wonderful place has so many amazing sections for their thousands of books!

Mrs Vine or Ms Gaffney can help you to take a book out of the Library, but here are the simple steps to borrowing a book:

  • Pick out the perfect book!
  • Take it to one of the Librarians to scan
  • They will confirm if it is appropriate for your age group
  • Return the book on the agreed date - if you forget the Librarians will email you a reminder

Happy reading!
