A-Level History: Bringing the Tudors to Life at Hampton Court Palace

Thursday 1 May 2025

JULIA CURTIN, HEAD OF HISTORY

Year 12 History students had a very informative and enjoyable trip to Hampton Court on Monday 28 April. It was a beautiful sunny day and a perfect opportunity to see Tudor History come alive, walking around the halls and rooms that the characters from our A-Level course also once walked.

Highlights included seeing the wine fountain from the Field of the Cloth of Gold meeting,  standing in the Chapel where Anne Boleyn and Henry got married and also studying many of the portraits that line the walls.

We also attended an excellent educational session on Thomas Wolsey, the first Tudor owner of Hampton Court and responsible for much of its splendour. Through studying sources students were able to explore his life and the reasons for his downfall.

The educational session culminated in a debate, which took place in the very room that Cromwell, Henry’s next closest advisor, was condemned.
