Careers Room
At Queenswood we place great emphasis on providing up to date careers advice.  Guidance on Higher Education and careers is provided at key stages as our girls progress through the school.  Careers education is driven by the professional knowledge of our careers specialists combined with feed-back from tutors and pastoral staff.

University application
Members of the Sixth Form are guided through the UCAS process (click here to see list of destinations for last year).  Each girl has an individual interview with a member of the careers department and is encouraged to attend careers open days at universities. If she wishes, she can have an interview with a team of specialist external interviewers to brush up her self-presentation skills.

Careers Convention
Careers Convention
We hold a biennial careers convention  when some sixty consultants come to Queenswood to represent their professions. (Click here to see a sample list.)  A series of career talks - given by established professionals in their fields (often Old Queenswoodians) - takes place throughout years 10 and 11; these talks enable the girls to gain valuable insights into the world of work.

Starting the process
Year 10 girls have an introductory meeting with one of the careers staff to start them thinking about the decisions they will have to make.  Year 11 girls are helped to assess their abilities and interests and take the Morrisby Test if they wish.  At this stage, all girls attend a structured interview with one of the careers staff to help them choose the subjects they will go on to study in the Sixth Form.

An innovative aspect of our careers work provides Year 8 girls with an opportunity to spend a day work-shadowing as part of the Personal, Health and Social Education programme.

Gap year
Girls choosing to take a gap year before progressing to university are given full support in discovering the opportunities this phase of their development can offer.
