U18 East Hockey Champions
The 1st XI qualified to represent Hertfordshire in the East of England Schools Hockey Championships. This was an all day event hosted at Redbridge on Wednesday 27 November. In the first game against Chelmsford Queenswood looked by far the stronger team but failed to convert and had to settle for a 0-0 draw. We then faced the Kent champions, and probably our biggest threat, Kings Canterbury. This match saw Queenswood take control and gain momentum to win convincingly 2-0. Jenny B came into her own in this game linking up with Hannah W on the forward line and gaining crucial penalty corners and a spectacular goal. Next up we faced Newport Free Grammar, a school that has caused Queenswood problems in the past - but not on this day! The team really got into their stride. Libby S controlled the centre of the pitch linking up with Elisa F to create problems for the Newport defence. Final score: 5-0.

Queenswood then progressed to the semi finals as section winners to face Greshams. There was no stopping the Queenswood team - led by captain Amy K they played positive, intelligent hockey to win convincingly 3-0. The defence of Lucy S, Victoria T, Daisy P, Hannah N, Amy K, Arianne S and Marina L approached the final having not conceded a goal, and knowing how important maintaining this record would be when facing Kings Canterbury once again. They handled the pressure well, rose to the occasion and continued this pattern ensuring a Queenswood 1-0 victory. The winning goal was expertly taken by Libby S. It was a confident performance by all and the best team most definitely won. They approach the National Finals in March 2008 in a very strong position. There is a lot more to come from this very young, talented squad.
