Sixth Form
In the Sixth Form

Sixth Formers
Sixth Form life at Queenswood is very different from life in the rest of the school.  Whilst Sixth Formers enjoy far greater freedom and independence, they are expected to contribute actively to the life of the school, especially in their leadership role. We firmly believe that our girls, with the benefits of a modern boarding education, will have a head start when they embark upon university courses or their chosen career.  Independence, maturity, application and confidence are prominent features of our Sixth Formers; we celebrate their achievements at school and beyond.

Alongside their demanding AS and A Level programme, Sixth Formers continue with PE and take up General Studies and other activities.  Community Service, during which close contacts are established with local schools and residential homes, is a valuable dimension.  Each Sixth Former is able to choose her own Personal Tutor who will support and guide her through the university application process and help her make all those important transitional decisions.

What our Sixth Formers say:

"One wouldn't expect that the Sixth Form could almost feel like a different school - and yet it's true.  Being back together as a year group and with extra packets of chocolate biscuits, we couldn't ask for any more.  The independence and increased responsibility for oneself is all preparation for the future, and the Sixth Form at Queenswood provides us with a firm grounding for later life."

"Upper Sixth life at Queenswood has brought with it the increased responsibility of leadership roles in the school community. We also learn valuable lessons in becoming self-sufficient as we move into the Sixth Form boarding houses; trying to cook myself an edible supper was more challenging than expected! This balance of responsibility and independence in both life and study allows us a more secure transition into the next chapter of our lives."
