The Music Department is delighted to announce that the celebrated singer and actress Melanie Marshall will be judging this year’s House Music Competition. Melanie will also be working with our girls later in the year in a Musical Theatre Masterclass.
Melanie Marshall is frequently hailed as one of this country’s most versatile artists. Her style encompasses jazz, opera, oratorio, musical theatre and cabaret and she has performed and recorded in Britain and abroad with such noted conductors as Sir Simon Rattle, Carl Davis, Libor Pesek, Kent Nagano, Trevor Pinnock, Ivor Bolton and orchestras including the Philharmonia, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic and all the BBC orchestras.
Melanie is no stranger to London’s West End and has appeared in
Kiss Me Kate,
Barnum,
Soul Train,
Ain't Misbehavin’,
Simply Heavenly,
Porgy and Bess and
Fame, to name but a few. She has worked as a featured guest with the Rambert Dance Company, and made numerous television appearances as both singer and actress.
She has made numerous recordings including
Wonderful Town and
Porgy and Bess both conducted by Sir Simon Rattle,
Dido and Aeneas conducted by Ivor Bolton,
Belshazzaar conducted by Trevor Pinnock, the
White House Cantata conducted by Kent Nagano and her first solo album
Cocktail, which was given the accolade of a five star rating by BBC Music Magazine. Melanie also recorded
Feel the Spirit and
Distant Land with Dr John Rutter and the Cambridge Singers. She is a regular contributor to
Friday Night is Music Night,
In Tune and the BBC’s
Songs of Praise. She also has a penchant for comedy and opera starring as the Diva in
The Fat Lady Sings, which she toured with Kit and the Widow.
Melanie can also be heard as a soloist on Dr John Rutter’s latest album
A Christmas Festival.
