L6 Geographers in snowbound Somerset |

Sixteen L6 Geographers returned on Saturday 7 March from an action-packed and eventful four days in Dorset and Somerset. They were studying Crowded Coasts; the variety of the Jurassic Coast, as well as coastal erosion and management at West Bay. They also considered Rural Rebranding towards sustainability within the Parish of Thorncombe. Staying at the Magdalen Farm Ecological Educational Partnership, they were shocked to wake up to eight inches of snow on Thursday morning. There was no electricity either, as a tree had fallen on local power cables. The girls had to feed the farm animals and staff collected eggs from the chicken shed before breakfast before fieldwork could start. Everyone enjoyed the experience which gave an extra dimension to the study of sustainability and the world beyond ‘peak oil’. |
