Geoff Parsons, the record breaking former international high jumper, entertained and inspired his audience of Upper School girls and staff on Tuesday 17 March in the Clarissa Farr Theatre. Geoff relayed his experiences of attending the Beijing Olympics last year with his partner, Heather Corrie, who competed for America in the canoe slalom event. Geoff illustrated his talk with amazing photographs and numerous objects from the world of sport including Heather’s canoe, a prosthetic running leg and artefacts from China and the Olympics. The preparation – sometimes over many years - just for one main event demands undivided attention in order to succeed. Geoff stressed the importance of having a positive mental attitude and how relevant this is, not only in sport but in study, business and our personal lives. Geoff is a real ambassador for the London Olympics in 2012 and urged everyone to support the project and get involved in any way possible. Geoff was pleased that quite a few Q athletes have their eyes set on the 2012 games, including Eloise M (Year 11), our U21 GB polo team canoeist, who may even compete against Heather at that event!
