This annual competition, which took place which took place at Tormead School, Guildford over the weekend of 13 – 15 March, is now a truly international affair. This year there were over 60 teams competing across four different age groups, including groups from Holland, Belgium and Dubai. Queenswood entered two teams, in the Under 13 and Over 13 categories.
Saturday saw the Under 13 team in action. (Emily H (capt), Gabriella F, Emma C, Alice W and Lauren McB). The girls performed well, particularly on vault, where they all scored over 8.00 and Emma scored 9.00. She also scored 9.15 for her voluntary floor and her combination of scores over four disciplines put her in 27th place individually (out of 90 girls in this age group). The team competed admirably and really enjoyed their first GISGA. They are keen now to work hard and move up the leader board!
On Sunday it was the turn of the Over 13 team (Lucy S (capt), Beth S, Emily B, Sophie A and Charlotte A). The girls had a great competition, everyone scoring over 9.00 for their set vault. Emily scored 9.50 and finished 12th out of 80 girls in this category. Emily also scored a 9.35 for her voluntary floor, placing her 10th in this event. She and Beth were joint 23rd on combined vault scores, while Sophie and Lucy were joint 20th on set vault. It’s fair to say that the girls had a very good vaulting day!
Lucy performed the final routine of her school career, to a classic piece of music – it was quite beautiful and earned her a score of 8.45. Charlotte’s score of 8.50 for her new routine was also very impressive.
The team finished in 10th position in a very closely contested competition: there were only four marks between the 4th and 10th placed teams. A lot of schools were vying for a place in the top six; the aim is to be there next year!
