A Magical Evening

On Thursday 15 and Saturday 17 January, Q parent and magician extraordinaire, Spyros Melaris, entertained packed audiences in the school’s theatre to raise funds to create a wildlife pond in the school grounds. Spyros is a magician and filmmaker who produces shows from his own TV studio for all the major UK networks and independent production companies (see www.magicinmind.com). When wildlife enthusiast Spyros learned that a pond was needed he volunteered his services immediately for two evenings of magical mayhem – one just for the girls and one for families and friends. The shows were full of highly impressive effects and willing volunteers assisted with the tricks, based largely on psychology, careful conditioning of the participants and the power of suggestion. Both evenings were fun and relaxed and the audiences were left asking themselves, “How did he do that?” An impressive £3000 was raised towards the pond, which is to be created by the girls, staff and parents this year. Well done everyone – and, yes, how did he do that?!
