The Houses
Upper Sixth
The Upper Sixth is the pinnacle of a girl’s career at Queenswood. Boarders live in three recently refurbished houses, Senior, Belling and Stamp, and enjoy the privacy of comfortable single rooms all of which have internet facilities.
The girls are able to cook their own evening meals if they wish in well-equipped, bright kitchens. As in the Lower Sixth, day girls are based in Bridge, although all girls come together at break times in the kitchens and delightful common rooms of the main houses. All Upper Sixth girls are given the role of School Leaders and are led by the Head Girl and her team of Deputies. They are encouraged to take on responsibility in a wide range of school activities such as leading the Charities Committee, the Environment Committee and assisting in the settling in of the new Year 7 girls.
Mair Dawson joined Queenswood in 1994 as Housemistress of Hartley and was appointed Upper Sixth Housemistress in 1998. She is a graduate economist, with a particular interest in environmental economics, and teaches A Level Economics. Mair was previously Head of Careers at Wrekin College and before that Head of Economics at Bedford High School. She lives with her husband Graham in one of the Sixth Form houses and they have a house in Suffolk. Mair enjoys reading modern fiction, appreciating modern art, gardening, composting, walking and breathing in the seaside air.
