Induction
Each September, on the day before term starts, we welcome new overseas girls in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 through an induction course in which they become familiar with their new environment, acquire language specific to the School and establish essential links with the EFL Department and other staff. Through this gentle introduction to Queenswood, we hope the girls will be relaxed and confident enough to enjoy meeting their fellow students at the end of the course and to absorb all the new information and instructions they will be given in their first week of term.
The induction also creates a valuable opportunity for accompanying parents, especially those who have not previously been able to visit the school, to meet the Principal, explore the campus and speak to current parents who will act as their guides.
New overseas Sixth Formers are inducted by the EFL Department once term begins, in a way which reflects their maturity and command of the language.
The Nature of EFL support
Queenswood is keen for all students to enjoy the full range of academic and social opportunities it offers.
Consequently, working in tandem with the Speech and Drama Department, our EFL specialists devise programmes which correspond uniquely to the needs of each student. These are mainly delivered through one-to-one tuition. Our aim is to create a linguistic climate in which students feel able to achieve their full potential.
