Speech and Drama
LAMDA Speech & Drama and Practical English coaching is offered as an extracurricular activity.  The weekly lessons are extremely popular among girls who want to extend their drama skills and with those foreign students who wish to improve their ability to use English as a second language. Over half the girls in the school take some form of LAMDA examinations.

Students work individually or in pairs. They are exposed to a wide range of contemporary and classical playtexts - exposure which supports and enhances their curriculum work.

Speech & Drama is ideal for those students who wish to perform but perhaps are daunted by the larger audiences who attend the school plays. As well as solo and duologue work, examinations can be taken in disciplines such as mime and improvisation. Examination pieces are performed to parents, staff and students at regular LAMDA showcase events. The girls consistently achieve excellent results in their examinations; many students successfully work through eight acting grades and a talented few have gone beyond to Bronze, Silver and Gold medals. From January 2008, the medals will accrue UCAS points.

The Speech & Drama staff are experienced professionals. Their enthusiasm for acting is demonstrated in the short sketches they prepare for the girls. They also act as positive and fair adjudicators of the House Drama competition.
