QUEST
QUEST is the school's charity fundraising and community action group. The group aims to: encourage the thoughtful donation of time, money and other resources to charities chosen by the student body; raise awareness of the needs of others in the local, national and international community and provide opportunities for girls to become involved in community action projects.
The girls become involved in a wide range of activities throughout the school year. Last September's highly successful whole school Sponsored Activities Afternoon raised over 8500 pounds and the Operation Christmas Child appeal was our best ever. 412 boxes from Queenswood (almost one per pupil) were part of a larger consignment bound for the
Ukraine to make Christmas a little happier and brighter for disadvantaged children.
Girls from different year groups also organise smaller charity fundraising activities throughout the year, as well as becoming involved in community action projects. All girls in the Lower Sixth volunteer weekly at a retirement home, an over 60s club, a primary school or a school for children with special needs, all of which are found in the local area. Our links with older people in the community are further strengthened by their involvement in our annual Christingle Service in December and a Strawberry Tea each summer. One of the highlights of the QUEST calendar comes at the end of the summer term when we welcome a group of 8-14 year olds from Friends of Chernobyl's Children to the school for a day of art, music sporting activities.
This year our chosen school charities are SCAT (Skeletal Cancer Action Trust), Railway Children and Friends of Chernobyl's Children.
