QUEST (Queenswood Events, Service and Time) is the school's charity fundraising and community action group. QUEST's aims are to: encourage the thoughtful donation of time, money and other resources to charities chosen by the student body; raise awareness of the needs of others in the local, national and international community and provide opportunities for girls to become involved in community action projects. The girls take part in a wide range of QUEST activities throughout the school year. The highly successful whole school Sponsored Activities Afternoon in September raises a large sum for our school charities, and the Link Romania Christmas Appeal is always well supported. In 2009 over 300 Christmas boxes full of seasonal gifts for disadvantaged Romanian families were put together at Queenswood and later distributed in the Iasi, a large city in the east of the country.
Girls from different year groups also organise smaller charity fundraising activities throughout the year, as well as becoming involved in community action projects. All girls in the Lower Sixth volunteer weekly at a retirement home, an over 60s club, a primary school or a school for children with special needs, all of which are found in the local area. Our links with older people in the community are further strengthened by their involvement in our annual Christingle Service in December and a Strawberry Tea each summer. In addition, we encourage interaction with other young people in the local and wider community. We have a well-established link with the students of Lakeside School in Stanborough, many of whom have complex and severe learning difficulties, and one of the highlights of the QUEST calendar comes at the end of the summer term when we welcome a group of 8-14 year olds from Friends of Chernobyl's Children to the school for a day of art, music and sporting activities.
This year, Queenswood is supporting three worthwhile charities: Kith and
Kids, whose aim is to empower families living with disability to
overcome their social isolation and access the services they need,
Methodist Relief and Development
Fund,
which works to help reduce poverty around the world, and
Scholarships for Kids, which is committed to helping
children in some of the world's poorest areas afford the education they
deserve.
