Hockey
Queenswood is proud of its strong sporting tradition, renowned throughout the country.  Our excellent facilities, coupled with well qualified and motivated staff combine to create a highly successful sporting experience for the girls.  The curriculum is broad and balanced, promoting a 'Sport for All' ethos and challenging each individual to achieve her true potential.  In recent years our girls have represented their country at athletics, hockey, skiing, tennis, canoeing and rounders.  Girls may choose to follow GCSE, AS and A Level PE courses as well as qualify to become a Junior Sports Leader. In Year 11 and the Sixth Form the girls follow an options programme, allowing them to choose from a wide range of activities: golf, aerobics, trampolining, table tennis and self defence, to name but a few. In addition, the department runs an extensive extracurricular programme which complements timetabled activities and the healthy inter-house competition.

Jo Wakeley, Director of Sport

Mrs Joanne Wakeley, BEd Hons (London)

Jo’s first teaching post was at the Mount School after which she joined Queenswood in 1990.  During the 1990s Jo was part of the teaching and coaching team which saw girls competing in ten Junior Hockey national finals, three of which resulted in victory for the school.  After nine years she moved to Palmers Green High School as Head of Physical Education.  She maintained contacts with the school and was delighted to return in 2004 as Director of Sport.  Jo has been involved in the world of GCSE examination for many years and runs a team of examiners each year for Edexcel.   She is an all round accomplished sportswoman having achieved county level in hockey, badminton and athletics, competing at national level in the latter two. She has a love of all sport but is in her element when coaching the Queenswood hockey teams.
