Exploring Barcelona
Renowned for its eclectic teaching styles and its exotic trips, the Languages Department offers a multilingual island in a sea of English!

French is taught to all in Year 7 and girls then choose Spanish, Italian or Japanese as a second language in Year 8. The vast majority of girls study French to GCSE and around two thirds take in addition a second foreign language to GCSE. French, German and Spanish are currently available at AS and A Level and Italian GCSE is also on offer in the Sixth Form.

Visits provide vital input to the study of any language and the Department runs nine annual trips to France, Spain, Austria and Italy.   There is an annual Languages Evening during which girls from Years 7-9 perform a range of sketches and songs and the Sixth Form Languages Society meets termly.

In terms of classroom activities, we use anything which helps girls learn ranging from traditional grammar explanations to slideshow presentations.  Songs, games, role plays and videos also feature.
