ICT

Year 8 girls exploring their new laptops
ICT is taught as a discrete subject in Years 7 to 9 by subject specialists and during the hour long lessons girls develop their skills in using the Microsoft Office suite of programs including spreadsheets, databases, presentation software and the Internet. Additional topics, for examination data logging and control, are delivered through subject lessons such as Science.

From Year 8, girls are encouraged to use laptops during class, study and at home and to use Queenswood’s e-mail facility as an effective means of communication.

To enhance their use of the laptop computers, girls in Years 8 and 9 receive lessons in Keyboard Skills leading to the OCR qualification. In Year 10 all girls study for a short course GCSE qualification and have the option to take the Award in Digital Applications as a two year course in Years 10 and 11. In the Sixth Form, girls may opt to study the AQA Information and Communications Technology course to AS or A Level.
