Field trip to Iceland
Geography at Queenswood is exciting and looks beyond the classroom, with fieldwork forming a key part of the curriculum. In Years 7-10 this consists of day visits to local venues, with the Sixth Form travelling further afield to the Dorset coast. Optional overseas visits have included regular trips to Iceland. At GCSE girls will study the new AQA A syllabus which covers a variety of topics including population, plate tectonics, rivers, coasts, urban geography and tourism. This is a good foundation to the Edexcel A Level course which focuses on understanding and investigating our dynamic world. Having had a taste of the diversity and excitement of the subject at Queenswood, many girls go on to study Geography and related disciplines at university.
Mrs Sarah Sanders, Head of Geography

Sarah Sanders
Sarah Sanders graduated from London University with a first class degree in Geography and won the Institute of British Geographers student essay prize based on some fieldwork she initiated in Gabon. She  then studied for her PGCE at Cambridge University and was awarded the prize for joint top student.

Since then she has taught at a number of HMC and GSA schools, and has combined this with publishing a number of articles in geographical and educational journals, as well as writing a text book. She  also relishes the pastoral side of school life having been a Head of House in a day school, and supporting her husband in his role as Housemaster of a boy’s boarding house for 10 years.

Sarah enjoys travelling, but particularly likes spending time with her husband and daughters in Cornwall, cooking and being involved with church activities.
