Outstanding A Level and GCSE Performance Maintained

Thursday 22 August 2013

Queenswood girls are celebrating outstanding A level results again this year.

  • Of the 23 subjects offered at A level 84% of grades achieved were A*/B.
  • One third of the girls achieved A* and A grades in all their A level subjects.
  • Once again the girls were highly successful in the Cambridge pre-U with grades awarded at distinction level.
  • The excellent results mean that the girls will be going on to the top universities including Bristol, Edinburgh, London School of Economics, University College London, Warwick. Subjects being read at Cambridge this year will include: Geography, Law and Linguistics.
  • Among the many individual superb achievements were girls who attained full marks in all parts of their A Level: full marks in Art and Design, 400 out of 400; full marks in Mathematics, 600 out of 600. Our youngest pupil in the year group, just 16 in March, gained 2 A*s and 1 A.

In commenting on the results the Principal said: “Congratulations to the girls and to the staff on these excellent results. The girls have worked with enthusiasm and commitment, supported by exceptionally dedicated staff. The overall results are impressive but for us it is the achievements of the individual girls which matter. We are proud to retain our position as a leading academic school and wish our Upper Sixth students every success for the future.”

  • At GCSE,
1/3 of all grades were at A*.
  • 70% of all grades were at A*/A at GCSE.

  • 46% of students obtained 8A*/A grades combined.

Mrs Edgar commented: “We are thrilled with these excellent GCSE results. Our girls will now be able to enter the Sixth Form with real confidence as they embark upon their chosen A Level courses and we congratulate them on their fine achievements. We have certainly not experienced depressed grades, unlike the reports nationally. The results confirm Queenswood’s position as a leading academic school and reflect the team work between the girls and their teachers.”
