Chocolate relay puts spotlight on food inequality

Tuesday 4 February 2014

Queenswood Year 8 students built upon the prior learning they had
done with World AIMS around the issues of inequality with food.  In a
previous visit by Sarah Corris, students had learned about how food was
unevenly distributed around the world and the consequences of this.

On Monday 3 February, the girls were looking at the issues of Fair
Trade, and the importance of how everybody from producer to consumer has
an important role to play in making the food trade more fair for all
involved. The girls looked at how Fair Trade works, its commitment to
benefitting the whole community in which
it works, and its environmental impact.

Students also
participated in an active learning demonstration involving
chocolate, which always goes down well!  The girls had to work together
in order to win the chocolate for all, despite being given different
disadvantages to overcome.  The message behind this activity is that it
is important to work together to achieve a fair result for all.
