Amadeus – the perfect marriage of theatre and music

Friday 17 October 2014

The Drama Scholars and Principal’s Award Holders presented a triumphant, ambitious production of Peter Shaffer’s Amadeus in the Clarissa Farr Theatre on Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 October 2014.

The auditorium was transformed into a promenade setting, with the masked audience invited to follow the actors around the space and view the scenes from different angles. Director Tim Shaw’s decision to multi-cast the principal roles of Mozart and Salieri really paid off, and almost every performer had the opportunity to portray both the ill-fated genius and his nemesis, the ‘patron saint of mediocrity’.

In the gallery above the acting space, an orchestra of musicians, conducted by soprano and pianist Zoe Lykourgou, treated us to arrangements of some of Mozart’s most sumptuous compositions.

Many congratulations to everyone involved in this remarkable production.
